UGM KKN Students Raise the Potential of Penyengat Island Tourism

Tanjungpinang – A total of 25 students from the Student Community Service- Community Empowerment  Learning (KKN-PPM) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), carried out the Declaration of Penyengat Island Residents with the theme “Penyengat Kampung Kite, Penyengat Warisan Kite”, at Penyengat Island village hall, Saturday (14 / 4).

In addition, the activity was filled with cultural stage performances, such as creative music, poetry reading, reading of gurindam XII, dendang anak, and zapin dance. There is also a culinary bazaar with a traditional menu.

The Chairperson of the Activity, Leonardo Wigen, explained that this activity was one of the programs by KKN-PPM student, in order to raise the public awareness to be aware of tourism and aware of inheritance. Therefore, we initiate the activities of the Penyengat Island citizens declaration, cultural and culinary stage.

According to him, Penyengat Island has many interesting tourism potentials, such as the heritage sites of the Malay Kingdom’s history, culture, local wisdom, and culinary. With the wealth of potential that exists, he hopes that the local people of Penyengat Island are ready to support and participate in the development of tourism while preserving the cultural heritage that has been owned.

Meanwhile, one of the students of UGM KKN-PPM Program, Syiva Fauzia Lestari admitted that she was quite overwhelmed, because the event was welcomed enthusiastically by local people, even though in heavy rain conditions, people were still watching the event.

“Alhamdulillah, the public response it positively, we were overwhelmed by the people who continued to arrive,” said her.

The student of the Faculty of Geography UGM said, in addition to raising tourism potential in Penyengat Island, this activity is also expected to increase tourist visits to Penyengat Island. “Hopefully this activity can provide benefits and contributions to the prosperity of the local people in Penyengat Island”, Syifa concluded.

UGM KKN-PPM activities are held for two months, starting from 1 March to 27 April 2018. They carry out KKN together in two locations, Penyengat Island and Bugis Village.

BALIPORTALNEWS.COM –  Student Community Service- Community Empowerment  Learning (KKN-PPM) of UGM in Bacan South Halmahera, North Maluku clean the beach along the Bacan Islands on Saturday (07/17/2018).

This beach cleanning  activity that carried out together with the Bacan local people is one of the KKN-PPM  programs as an awareness form to build harmony with nature, especially the coast and sea. Because the area become source of life for local people.

The KKN-PPM unit coordinator, Raka Kusuma, said that so far, the awareness of the local people in the coastal area to maintain the environment is still relatively low. They still look less concerned about the conditions of the beach and sea.

” In fact, Tanjung Obit and Prapakanda villagers look their daily lives neccesities from beach” as he explained in release on Tuesday (07/17/2018).

The low awareness of the sea can be seen from local people’s behavior. Most of them throw away their garbage into the sea.

“Local People argue that it is more easy to throw away garbage into the sea,” he said.

By looking at these matters, Raka needs to raise the awareness about the importance in keeping the preservation of coastal area as a part of sustainable development.

Before the implementation of beach cleaning activities, Deputy Regent of South Halmahera Iswan Hasjim, ST, MT took time to visit the KKN-PPM location in Tanjung Obit village and Prapakanda village. Iswan appreciates various programs run by KKN-PPM students from UGM. He hopes that the KKN-PPM students of UGM become a catalyst for the rise of the Bacan island community to be better and more independent in the future.

The UGM KKN-PPM which carries out the Bacan unit is a KKN-PPM between 2018 semesters which runs from 23 June to 10 August 2018. The KKN-PPM in Bacan Unit is attended by 30 students from various faculties who stayed and lived together on Bacan islands for 7-8 weeks to run their program that have planned before. The Ceremony for the Release of a Community Service Program

On Monday (2/10/2017) on page Directorate of Community Service UGM ongoing ceremony jumping and release student KKN-PPM UGM period of 2017 semester which followed by 330 students. The release ceremony begins at 8:00 to 9:00 pm with direct direction from the Vice Rector for Research and Community Service (P2M) drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D., to the students before entering the community in order to adapt well. Because they will live within the community within almost two months in a new place that must adapt to the environment and keep the good name of UGM. At this jumping ceremony, also attended by Director of Directorate of Community Service, Prof. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada, M.eng., PH.D., Kasubdit KKN. Djaka Marwasta, S.Si., M.Si.

Then the students are divided into units of each unit consisting of 20-30 students to be placed at the location of community service program that has been determined. Community service program location in this period there are 10 locations in Bantul district 1 group, Gunung Kidul 1 group, Purworejo 1 group, Wonosobo 1 group. Then with the most number of locations are in Boyolali and Bangka districts, each of which there are 3 groups.

During this period, there were 4 foreign students who were part of Community service program participants, they were in one location in the village of Phuton hamlet, Trimulyo village, Jetis sub-district, Bantul district of Yogyakarta Special Region. Four of these foreign students are from France who participated as participants, because of the obligations that must be fulfilled by them because as a student who was studying at UGM in one semester. This is a mandatory rule for every UGM student to follow community service program, but for foreign students who are not studying at UGM can also take part in community service program.

Education Becomes One of SCS-CEL Theme

Education is one of the most unfinished issues in Indonesia, due to the underlying causes. Though the advanced and not a nation can be seen from the high quality of community education. This can be seen from developed countries such as the United States, South Korea, Great Britain, and Germany that focus on human development through the world of good education and quality.

The impact of the country can grow very rapidly because the education world as a driver to give birth to people who have high quality human resources. By looking at the importance of education role for the progress of a nation, SCS-CEL UGM also has theme related to education. This can open the horizons to the young generation in Indonesia with a focus on the importance of education.

Especially with the presence of foreign students who participated in the SCS-CEL program can provide something different to the younger generation in the location of the program. Because by interacting directly with foreign students from outside will provide knowledge about the country of origin and how the younger generation of countries in the world of education. Providing motivation for children to actively learn continuously to achieve its goals and do not let facilities and minimal access becomes a barrier to move forward.

By sharing stories about the importance of education to children from foreign students and providing knowledge of foreign languages, cultures, will have much greater positive impact. Because early on the children have been able to gain knowledge about other nations, the importance of education, have extensive knowledge, and the ability of foreign languages to be able to communicate well in the present day.

Especially in the present era that requires humans to be able to have good resources and the role of education has a large portion because it must be able to compete with other people’s human resources. The reason globalization can not be avoided by humans now with the rapid flow of change and information also provides the same space to all people to be able to have a career anywhere with the ability they have. This is the basis for UGM in SCS-CEL program to also focus on the theme of education in Indonesia.

COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT OPEN FOR FOREIGN STUDENT

Community empowerment is a mandatory program for every UGM student because one of the requirements for graduation. This program is very dynamic and gives many new experiences to each participant by living in a society different from the original place. In addition, there are differences of customs, culture, and life values that are very new for the participants. This community empowerment is conducted throughout Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke. This makes the community empowerment program provides an experience that will not get in place of origin. In addition, to better recognize Indonesia’s richness in terms of ethnic, cultural, linguistic, natural, and biodiversity diversity.

This community empowerment program opens opportunities for students from other countries to participate in the program. This provides a new experience for foreign students to experience life in Indonesian society especially in the village. This program is for foreign students to get to know Indonesia deeper because students live in the middle of society in their daily life.

This program is better known as SCS-CEL (Student Community Service – Community Empowerment Learning) as an intra curriculum activity that collaborates on three elements based on the three basic principles of a university (TRI DHARMA).  The three elements are, (1) personality empowerment, 2) institutional development and, 3) community empowerment. The program’s activities are carried out systematically and tailored to the priorities of the community and partners who assist in the success of the activities.

In the implementation, SCS-CEL opened wide cooperation space for various parties to be able to succeed this program. Whether it is from the government or private agencies, communities, and other stakeholders. Because with the help of cooperation from various parties such SCS-CEL program can run better because it is done with a lot of help.

Then the goal of this SCS-CEL program for students is to increase students’ awareness of the real issues about the world. In addition, foreign students can share their experiences and knowledge to the community. For example, for villages that have good tourism potential, students can provide foreign language training to be able to prepare the community in developing tourism with existing wealth in the area.
